Job Description:

A primary focus of KBM’s Field Services division is Forest Resource Inventory (FRI) data collection. KBM is currently seeking a Field Supervisor with proven technical and project management skills to join our Thunder Bay team on a full-time basis to support our FRI and other field programs. The field supervisor will be responsible for providing functional direction and supervision to field crews, coordinating daily with field staff, and delegating project tasks to field crew based on skill set and experience level. Other job responsibilities will include overseeing training requirements for field staff, ensuring data quality, assisting with proposal writing and pricing, report writing, and the use of GIS software (ESRI suite and summit) for digital field collection and analysis (this includes aerial photo interpretation). The Field Supervisor will be required to travel throughout the field season and must be willing to work extended shifts in remote locations. The Field Supervisor position will be based in Thunder Bay, ON.

Required Skills:

  • Degree or diploma in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Studies/Science, Geography, GIS, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of dendrology and mensuration
  • Experience completing Boreal Forest timber cruising and/or PSP establishment or remeasurement plots
  • Competent with GIS software (ESRI suite)
  • Competent with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc)
  • Proven experience managing or leading a team
  • Highly organized with good attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines

Other skills that are considered assets include:

  • MNRF ELC Photo Interpretation Certificate
  • Experience completing National Forest Inventory (NFI) photo or ground plots
  • Understanding of SQL and/or Python
  • A good understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
