Vegetation Sampling Network (VSN)
Government of Ontario
KBM has supported the Ontario Government’s Vegetation Sampling Network annually since 2020. This ground plot network allows data to be collected for a variety of purposes at the same time and to the same standard via a set of documented protocols.
KBM’s Role
- Ground-based digital data collection focusing on tree mensuration, soil profiling and texturing, and vegetation identification.
- Collection, analysis, and delivery of physical samples including substrate samples, vegetation samples, and tree cores.
- Provision of additional information including precision GNSS data (within a ±3m standard), 360 degree plot photographs, substrate photographs, and access notes and considerations.
- Suggestions for continual improvement of data collection (streamlining field procedures).
